God’s Word is Powerful

is54-13God’s Word is a powerful sword against any fear or worry. The first time I put my newborn into the church nursery, all kinds of anxious thoughts flooded my soul. “What if he’s afraid?” “What if he won’t take his bottle?” “What if they’re too busy?” I thought. As I walked from the education wing to the main sanctuary, the Word of God rose up on the inside of me, and I took up the shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit, declaring, “All my children are taught of the LORD, and great is the peace of my children.” Over and over I recounted the scripture as I walked. By the time I was seated in the sanctuary, my mind was in perfect peace and ready to receive the Word. I was so confident in God’s Word, I believed angels would take care of my baby if he needed it. Much to my delight, when I returned to the nursery, I was told, “If all the babies were like yours, we would have no trouble at all”. Praise God!

This story might seem like a small thing to some people, but at the time, it was a giant for me to overcome. When David killed Goliath, it was not the first time he had believed God. Listen how David recounted his victories in 1 Sam 17, “Your servant used to keep his father’s sheep, and when a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it by its beard, and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both lion and bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, seeing he has defied the armies of the living God.” Moreover David said, “The LORD, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.”

Just as David did, we too can build and recount our resume of victories in the Lord.
